Who is Slayyyter?
Slayyyter is the online moniker-turned electropop diva persona created by Catherine Grace Garner in her hometown of Kirkwood, Missouri. In the mid 2010s, Slayyyter was just a teenage girl wanting to discuss her interest in music through social media. Through her use of Twitter, she was introduced to up-and-coming electroclash powerhouse Ayesha Erotica. The two officially began collaborating, which led to Slayyyter’s first official track release through Soundcloud in 2018, “BFF”, featuring and produced by Ayesha. By 2019, the success Slayyyter experienced online allowed her to quit her job as a receptionist to pursue music as a career following the popularity of her song “Mine”. Her first release, the self-titled electropop mixtape “Slayyyter”, became available to stream on September 17, 2019. Soon after, she opened for Charli XCX during her October 2019 tour “Charli Live Tour”, paving the way for her future success.

Slayyyter’s Legacy
Slayyyter played a role in establishing the sounds of many viral, up-and-coming electronic scenes, including hyperpop and indie sleaze revivial. Her first release, the 2019 self-titled mixtape “Slayyyter”, was a precursor to what we recognize today as “indie sleaze revival” by glamourizing trashy MySpace-adjacent Y2K looks and the grimy late 2000s/early 2010s electropop sound. Her 2021 debut album, Troubled Paradise, was one of the first albums released under a well-established record label to feature hyperpop songs, making her an important figure in bringing this hyper-digital pop sound into the mainstream music industry. Her most recent release, Worst Girl in America (2026), has gone viral for its fusion of throbbing electronic beats with punk-style screeching vocals and fast-paced rapped verses inspired by bands like Crystal Castles, The White Stripes, and Justice. Many view the album as a stylistic follow-up to Charli XCX’s 2024 album “BRAT” in terms of attitude and brash electronic production, further supporting the mainstream attention and artistic development of the indie sleaze revival scene. With the release of this album and the universal appraise for it, Slayyyter seems more in her element than ever and has effectively established herself as a versatile artist with staying power.
